I'm headed off to summer school in two weeks. Lodging and transportation are a bit problematic, but my family is helping with both. I'm going to be sleeping on a few couchs and office/spare rooms, but I'm really jazzed about the program I'm in. The bus isn't free on Oahu, but a student pass is about a third of the full price. It's an intensive seven hours a day five days a week six week program in drawing and oils. The class will be learning in the atelier Renaissance style. We're going to learn to make paint from scratch, stretch and gesso our own canvas, other fun stuff. I'm excited about the work and a little nervous too about the skill level and the amount of work involved. I talked to the teacher and others about the program and people see a definant improvement in their work after taking the class. I think something more serious in the field is what I need right now. I keep on refering to it as "art boot camp" to my friends.
Also, I have to put a bunch of stuff in storage, and that's always super. It's not the driving to and from storage places, moving boxes that bugs me so much as the stuff that's in the boxes. Choosing what to get rid of, wondering why I held on so long to this or that. Also, car's got a flat, so yeah, need to deal with that among other things.
I just got to "make it work," as Tim Gunn would say, and keep in mind what's going to be at the end of the work. . .(hopefull) I'm going to come out of this a stronger artist, and I'll be learning in a beautiful neighborhood that I love.
